“The future will either be green or not at all”, this famous, thought-provoking quote of Bob Brown explains everything. The harsh reality is that in spite of being well aware of the truth, most of us do not want to accept it. We prefer to live in a deceptive world of fantasy, far away from our nature and environment. But the real question is, for how long?
In the present scenario of time, the total forest area across the planet is roughly around 27%. You may wonder, but our planet is losing 13 million hectares of forest each year, a size equivalent to that of Greece. The situation is far worse in our country. India only has 20.5% of the forest cover left, with more under threat because of logging, farming and illicit mining.
But as per the latest report of The Forest Survey of India, there has been an increase in the forest cover by 5,871 sq km. The stats may not seem to be large, but it is certainly an encouraging one. It shows us that as a responsible environmental trust, our efforts are paying off. For years, Akankshanirudh Foundation had actively planted millions of trees in arid and deforested areas. Our volunteers have not only planted different varieties of trees in order to ensure a balanced greenbelt, but also invested selfless man hours in order to protect them, nurture them and raise them. Our committed members are well aware of the fact that selfless devotion to the environment for some time can secure the future of our upcoming generations, along with all the other species inhabiting the earth.
There is not one, but an incalculable number of reasons due to which planting and taking care of the trees ought to be an inevitable part of our life. Trees are the best friends of all the living beings on earth, including us.
They produce natural and 100% clean oxygen for the living beings to inhale. It is an interesting fact that a fully matured, leafy tree could generate as much oxygen within a season, that would be enough for 10 people to inhale for a whole year.
The trees keep our environment and soil clean against harmful chemicals and pollutants. They either absorb these agents, or convert them into less harmful forms. Additionally, they also prevent the erosion of soil and conserve the rain water.
They play a very decisive role in restraining the noise pollution and the cases of flash flooding caused by storm water.
They also absorb a substantial amount of carbon generated by the air polluting agents and keeps the air clean. They remove all the other harmful components of air including carbon monoxide, nitrogen dioxide and sulfur dioxide, through the process of respiration.
The trees offer shade and reduces the heat from the surrounding temperature. The research shows that the areas without tree shade could have a temperature of 12 degrees Fahrenheit more than a region with adequate tree shade.
The trees are very important from the viewpoint of the real estate as well. Do you know how? It is really unfortunate that these days most of us prefer the jungles of concrete. But the studies in the real estate market say that, having trees in your estate not only beautify the premises, but also boost the value of your property up to 15%.
The question is who else can offer you so many benefits, and that too for free?
So the greedy corporate bodies may say anything! They may call it the development, they may call its ever growing needs or they may call it exports. But the truth is that the trees are as important to us, as the life itself. There would be no oxygen, no life, no future without trees.
So join hands with the Akankshanirudh Foundation to ensure better, natural biodiversity of flora within our surroundings. Let’s walk together towards our future! A better future, a greener future…..
